OPENING NIGHT
AT VORSPIEL CTM x TRANSMEDIALE
PARALLAX team at ACUD MACHT NEU
17.- 18.01.2020
Through live performances, screenings, DJ sets, and many other artistic interventions, this opening event gives a taste of what to expect for the Vorspiel 2020 program. Returning to Mitte’s longest running artist centre, ACUD, the opening will span the venues various spaces including the club, studio, theatre, gallery, and more.
As a prelude to CTM and transmediale festivals, Vorspiel regroups initiatives, collectives, and venues into a city-wide event series: two weeks of exhibitions, performances, interventions, and artist talks that explore artistic intersections of digital culture and society.
The program showcases this year’s participating venues.

NOISE FLOOR
Moritz Zeißner + Martin Haug at ausland
21.02.2020
The search for new noise has set us on an unusual journey investigating where
new noise originates nowadays. Where can we find new oscillations, rhythms,
and sounds?
We are constantly developing new techniques, machines, and networks in the
cyber-human world -– therefore, new processes are conceived, launched, resumed,
cancelled and completed at any given moment in close vicinity of everyone and
everything.
In this performance, Moritz Zeisner and Martin Haug are searching for new noise
by training an artificial neural network on a noise database. They will ask the
neural network to reproduce these noises.
Using the early training output of such an artificial neural network that still
contains some error can be a new approach for humans to discover and learn about
new noise and may guide towards a new perception of music.

INTERFERENCE
Victoria Martinez at Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien
06. - 12.02.2020
"Parody by itself is not subversive, and there must be a way to understand what makes certain kinds of parodic repetitions effectively disruptive, truly troubling, and which repetitions become domesticated and recirculated as instruments of cultural hegemony“ – Judith Butler
The connecting link between the shown works is the element of interference, of disturbance. Hegemonial structures will be shown and challenged on formal, semiotic, or activist levels.
The aspect of disturbance – understood as a cultural practice, act, and artistic strategy – serves the purpose of questioning given power structures and asymmetries in different parts of public and social life. The norm is made apparent and put to the test by this act of disturbance wether the frame of action be in the public, in the intimate, in the art frame, or in the fictional room of a utopian reality.
The question remains if a utopian notion automatically requires a closed system and by that becomes exclusive? Can a social system be absolute and if it is, doesn’t this phenomenon describe exactly the vulnerability of democracy?

PARALLAX GOES RUNDGANG
PARALLAX team at 34C|Rundgang Universität der Künste
12. - 14.07.2019
/ˈparəlaks/ the effect whereby the position or direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different positions.
In our room, week by week, artistic and scientific perspectives try to grasp one another. On the way, various hybrid expressions were developed; from ideas to rough sketches, from prototypes to almost-finished projects.
In the Rundgang 2019, Parallax Lab will present parts of the on-going research and creative processes.
Come to hear, think, play with the Parallax effect.

AALE LEUCHTEN NACKT
AT 48 STUNDEN NEUKÖLLN
PARALLAX team at IDA NOWHERE
22. - 24.06.2018

AT CHAOS COMPUTER CONGRESS
Benjamin Maaß + Manuel Peuckert at Messe Leipzig
27. - 30.12.2018
"One should understand the Chaos Communication Congress as a political action. For five days, hackers and activists appropriate one of the largest venues in the country and do their own thing. All this happens without sponsors and subsidies. [...] The congress is therefore a prime example of the self-organisation of alternative communities. [...] An important event that brings together hackers from technology, media, culture and social movements, promotes their networking and joint projects and thus ultimately strengthens democratic civil society." - Markus Reuter for netzpolitik.org

Together with the Experimental Stage Project some Parallax participants went to Leipzig and presented their project "Quacking Aspen". The project was mentioned and praised in the closing speech of the congress.

SHADOW BOUNDARIES
AT 48 STUNDEN NEUKÖLLN
Emma Sokoll + Clara Roca-Sastre at KollektivBar ES
23. - 25.06.2017
The shadow: an image that deprives the object of its dimensionality. A metaphor for the unconscious, the imperfect, the indirect. The possibility of revealing the invisible and understanding the untouchable. At the 48h Neukölln Festival we present performative installations in the framework of Experimental Stage Project, which put our thoughts on reality to the test. Together with the artists Mathilde Schalla, Doro Dorn and Simon Ball.
